Job Summary
Role and Responsibilities:
Operational Direction and Planning
- Develop timelines and project plans and support in the coordination of the successful planning and implementation of youth programs across Syria, inclusive of camp logistics, training, and evaluation.
- Manage and strengthen relationships with internal and external institutions supporting the implementation of youth programs including campsites across the country, transportation.
- Able to travel extensively during the spring and summer months and be present at the major residential and non-residential programs including but not limited to: Mosaic, Afak, Sufaraa and Masar camps.
- Standardize current youth programs and camps processes and policies to ensure consistent documentation.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners including the National and Local Council Presidents and National and Local ITREB, AKYSB and AKEB Chairmen in various aspects of the planning and implementation of camps.
- Compile annual budgets for camps.
Strategic Planning and Evaluation
- Assess existing programs, identify gaps, and provide recommendations to the National Council, ITREB, AKYSB and AKEB.
- Research ongoing best practices to elevate existing programs and identify opportunities for new offerings within the Syrian Ismaili youth portfolio.
- Assess the needs of existing at-risk youth within the Syrian Members, and research best practices to better support these youth when participating in existing and future activities.
- In collaboration with institutional partners, develop and implement evaluation tools and processes to assess progress of programs.
- Develop information management strategies to include collection and management of participant and staff data.
Human Resource Development and Training
- Manage volunteers within the youth programs and camps including the national and local staff, volunteers, program managers, consultants.
- Oversee the development of staff trainings for youth programs’.
- Ensure appropriate training for youth programs’ personnel.
- Identify and implement strategies for volunteer recruitment to ensure national and regional teams are fully staffed.
- Ensure successful completion of background checks and contextual adherence.
Risk Management and Safety
- Consult with relevant experts to ensure that youth programs have a comprehensive risk management strategy and policies.
- Ensure that camps have policies, procedures, practices, operating manuals, and appropriate registrations’ processes.
- Liaise closely with Aga Khan Health Board (AKHB) and national and local healthcare partners or providers (physical and mental health).

Skills and Qualification:
The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator, sensitive to the challenges and opportunities involved in the educational leadership and delivery of the youth programming in Syria in a quality and professional manner. Specific requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Those with a Master's degree in education, social work, non-profit management, public administration, or business administration are strongly preferred
- Professional or voluntary work experience in youth development or community engagement.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Arabic and English.
- Maturity, wisdom and sensitivity to fulfill a robust and sound leadership role for the Members institutions in the context of Syria.
- Budgeting, accounting and financial resource development and management skills.
- Strong project planning, management, and administration skills.
- People leadership skills, ability to work with and mentor individuals of diverse experiences and working styles.
- Experience in mental health and wellbeing, particularly mental health of youth, is an asset.
- Demonstrate a spirit of empathetic leadership with the capacity to balance quality with quantity to serve the diverse needs across demographically large or small settings of the Syrian Ismaili youth.
- Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Willingness to travel across various regions of Syria and work with flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- An ability to nurture innovative, analytical and critical thinking in leading national and local programs for the Syrian context.
- Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
- Familiarity with, and empathy for, members, including cultural diversity within the community.
