Job Summary

We are seeking a Technical Designer to create visually appealing and technically accurate designs that meet the needs of our stakeholders. The successful candidate will work on three key stakeholder areas – Beauty Shot, Permit Packages / UL compliance docs, and Production Packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quickly turn customer logos and pictures into concept proposals that have brief descriptions of the construction and sizes marked on the drawing. This is a sales tool, so the emphasis is on creating designs that are quick and dirty, with only two revisions allowed unless specifically requested.
  • Find and read customer and site criteria, and city ordinances to create packages that contain everything required to obtain a permit. This includes filling out an application form, a site map with legal descriptions, an attachment plan, an electrical plan with UL details, and an elevation with additional details such as PMS codes, CMYK codes, and paint details. The designer should also include quoted and referenced sign criteria and sign ordinance to demonstrate how the sign qualifies for the permit.
  • Provide everything required to build the product, including a Bill of Material, production files for CNC, Accubend, Printer and details on construction. The designer should produce a reasonably complete list of the materials needed and use software abilities to nest the drawings, including details about the type of aluminum corner joins needed, the saddle details, sheet metal thicknesses, radiused corners on channel letter backs, oversized faces, push-through shelf cuts, acrylic attachments, pick points, countersunk screw locations, and rivet locations.
  • Maintain UL reporting and ensure we have enough stickers and company detail ID stickers.
  • Design brag wall designs using existing remnants from previous jobs.
  • Incorporate suggestions from the shop guys to standardize hardware, better ways to attach, cut, lathe designer, match attachment lathe designers, and standardize different aspects of the drawing.
  • Use software tools such as Corel, Adobe Illustrator, Flexi, Enroute, Gravostyle, and Cutmaster to maximize the power of these applications. The designer should keep the software current, use advanced nesting functions, plug-ins, templates, and reusable snippets.

Required Skills
  • Proven experience as a Technical designer (minimum 1 year), with a portfolio of previous work.
  • Strong skills in Corel, Adobe Illustrator, Flexi, Enroute, Gravostyle, and Cutmaster.
  • Knowledge of sign regulations, permits, and UL compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to create technically accurate designs.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with stakeholders.
