JOB SUMMARY:

ITREB, P serves one of the largest  in the world and is mandated to facilitate understanding of the essential principles  within the broader context of Islam through a comprehensive Religious Education Curriculum developed by the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS), London, UK.

ITREB, P invites applications for the role of Senior Adolescent and Youth Educator. Under the guidance and mentorship of the Academic Director, Religious Education (AD, RE), TL will facilitate the learning of the assigned team. The primary role of the TL will be to promote and support a culture of ongoing learning amongst the team by mentoring the teachers and coordinating team decision-making and planning processes. The TL will bring continuity to the work of the Academic Director (AD) and HOREO by bringing the learning of the PLCs into their team and mentoring it to grow professionally on the job through classroom observations and feedback as well as monitor and support in the delivering of the curriculum using various remote learning models.

The ideal candidate should be a STEP teacher with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in the classroom. (S)/he should be an energetic and passionate practitioner, possessing sound pedagogical and content expertise along with communication, interpersonal and motivational skills. (S)/he should be a team player, a self-directed and independent learner who is constantly working on their practice and has a sense of internal accountability. This position offers the TL the unique opportunity to be mentored by the Academic Director over a period of time on teachers’ development, enabling them to become exceptional educators, sensitive to the challenges and opportunities involved in the delivery of the IIS Secondary Curriculum in the field with strong pedagogical content knowledge.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In coordination with the Academic Director, the Senior Adolescent and Youth Educator will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Support and mentor teachers to understand curriculum content, lesson planning, reflective practices, and assessment processes.
  • Engage in designing academic plans in collaboration with AD for the assigned group of STEP Teachers (STs)
  • Conduct and provide support to the assigned group of teachers through pre-observation, class observations, and post-observation meetings. Maintain its record and share it with AD after every six months.
  • Create and facilitate opportunities (proactively and responsively) for teachers to deepen their curriculum understanding together with its relevance to their context. 
  • Arrange weekly or bi-weekly group meetings on planning, teaching, classroom challenges, and best practices of STs. Maintain meeting notes and attendance at these meetings and share discussion points with AD.
  • Carry on day-to-day reflective sessions on classroom teaching and the effectiveness of strategies employed and provide one on one support to individual teachers.
  • Work in teams on planning and implementation of the IIS Secondary Curriculum in camp settings
  • Identify and discuss learning needs within team members and facilitate Professional Development related activities. 
  • Keep the team motivated for timely and effective coverage of the curriculum teaching in each academic term and conducting the assessments.
  • Complete team tasks assigned to the group.
  • Take the lead for IIS-led CPD for pre, during, and post-CPD activities.
  • Lead the process of planning, developing, and implementing the IIS Secondary Curriculum through synchronous, asynchronous, and blended modes of teaching.
  • Monitor formative assessments. Do peer reviews of formative assessment tools used by team members and share feedback.
  • Ensure effective collaboration regarding local matters (i.e., year calendar, class schedules, volunteer teacher recruitment, and program development, etc.).
  • Teach the STEP curriculum minimum of three days and supervise at least one project a week.
  • Observe at least one to two lesson(s) of the assigned group of teachers and co-teach.
  • Develop, facilitate, and monitor growth plans for each group member and share them with AD in the form of a progress report.
  • Supervision of teachers’ performance as per KPIs designed for the year.
  • Consistently lead and actively participate in and facilitate programs in collaboration with ITREB colleagues and other  AKDN institutions.
  • Lead the implementation process of STEP Professional Development & Practice Review (SPDPR) and use this as a tool for the professional development of self and teachers.

Other responsibilities:

  • Arrange coordination meetings with fellow Team Leads at least once a month to ensure uniformity and alignment.
  • Give feedback to the AD once in 3 months regarding the progress of the curriculum and team activities.
  • Maintain a record of the performance of each group member and provide input for the annual appraisal reports.
  • A key player in maintaining a positive work culture among the team.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the AD

Required Skills

REQUIRED PROFILE FOR TEACHER LEAD POSITION:

Education: STEP Graduate. A prior undergraduate degree in the field of education or social sciences is desirable but not essential.

Experience:

STEP teacher with a minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience.

Some experience in providing mentoring and pastoral support to Newly Qualified STEP Teachers is desirable but not essential.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Outstanding STEP teacher who is interested in improving teaching standards and quality in the local ITREB.
  • Command over both English and Urdu languages.
  • Capacity for conducting teacher education programmes, mentoring, leadership, and team building.
  • Capacity to take on leadership roles in supporting local CPD initiatives for teachers.
  • Understanding of the RE system and procedures.
  • Work independently with a minimum level of supervision.
  • Proven negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage a diverse staff and to develop, nurture and promote teamwork.
  • Excellent rapport with colleagues.
  • Excellent command over MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and other virtual platforms of teaching-learning
  • Have excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be discreet, sensitive, and objective in handling departmental affairs.
  • Proven capability of working in collaboration with STEP teachers in the field while creating positive work culture and capacity to create strong relationships with wider stakeholders.
