The Aga Khan University was founded in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.

The Department of Anaesthesiology at Aga Khan University is committed to providing clinical excellence in perioperative care as well as the training of future anaesthesiologists. Our team of trained and well-experienced anesthesiologists aims to provide best possible patient care not only in the operation theatres but also beyond it. With current 35 clinical faculty our department is one of the biggest Anaesthesia department in country, our faculty is also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education and our programs are recognized at national and international level.

  • assistance and review of applications for ERC exemption
  • meeting with faculty and residents for planning & execution of research ideas
  • dissemination of upcoming grant opportunities
  • annual submission of clinical audit report to the chair of Research cell and Department chair 
  • review of protocols for ERC exemption
  • literature search by manual search and database search from librarian
  • review manuscript for scientific accuracy
  • initiation and active participation in systematic review & meta-analysis
  • development of grant application review checklist
  • initiation and active participation in national and international collaboration
  • helping with designing of research modules for residents, faculty & staff
  • statistical support for ARC (as a senior member of the team led by Assistant Manager)
  • software assistance for;
    • statistics
    • data collection
    • editing & review
  • help residents in academic activities, including journal club & evidence-based session preparation (other than theme/topic selection)
  • assist faculty in grant writing, developing budgets for research and/or educational grants
  • develop research ideas in conjunction with faculty for the Department of Anesthesia
  • data management for the study
  • regular monitoring and quality assurance, audit, and feedback
  • additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director ARC and/or Chair.

Required Skills
  • MBBS; with Master of Public Health (MPH) or MSc in Epidemiology & Biostatistics or equivalent
  • MBBS/BDS/M.Sc. Nursing
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in any reputable organization
  • experience in clinical/outcome clinical research
  • publications in peer-reviewed journals (2-5)
  • basic knowledge of research design
  • good collaborative and interpersonal communication skills
  • ability to initiate and contribute research activities
  • data collection, analysis and interpretation in term of report writing & biostatistics
  • computer skills; MS Office, SPSS/STATA/SAS/R software
  • good skill in scientific writing
  • skills in GIS mapping would be preferred.
