Job Summary

A renowned NGO based in Karachi is looking for the Portfolio Manager. The Portfolio Manager will primarily be responsible for different aspects of programs through the project cycle in a volunteer-based community environment.
The prime responsibility will be to work closely with the Head of Operations in the development and management of programs with the support of existing and potential partner institutions as well as creating a mechanism to ensure the quality of programs through supervision and support. The position will report to the Head of Operations and will be based in Karachi with frequent travels across the Country.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and manage the implementation of programs / initiatives through staff and local volunteers.
  • Work with the team in building an understanding of the current and evolving community needs and priorities.
  • Conceptualize, design and manage execution of new and current programs; 
  • Assist the Head of Operations in defining and developing the annual plans including budget and implementation, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Work with regional & central project teams for timely completion of program targets as per agreed timeline & priorities.
  • Ensure that system and processes are in place & implemented for the database management;
  • Liaise with stakeholders and share regular updates on assignments.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Head of Operations on ongoing programs.
  • Work with and train the volunteers and staff to equip them with requisite understanding of programs and skills required for quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Supervise and provide performance feedback to the staff reporting to this position.
  • A strong understanding of and respect for social ethics and other core values of the Board including equality, fairness, diversity, participation, creativity, humility and respect;
  •  Ensure that system and processes are in place for database management in order to properly track all aspects of each program.
  • Prepare and consolidate, monthly and periodic analytical reports on programs and other Interventions.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the ongoing program deliverables and develop a strategic approach in consultation with the Head of Operations for measuring overall program impacts and to develop improved methods.
  • Any other assignment as requested by Head of Operations or other person(s) assigned by the Head of Operations. 

Required Skills

Professional Experience

  • Candidate should have developed professionally through progressively responsible management experience of at least 3 - 5 years in a complex setting in a medium / large organization, especially with a hands-on experience of handling international donor financed projects. Jamati institutional and volunteer experience would be a significant asset.
  • Experience of survey & field work in GBC is highly desired.   
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure, meet stringent deadlines and work well in teams.

Skills and Attitudes

  • Goal-oriented, data-driven, with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, supportive, and collaborative working relationships with internal team members and the leaders and members of stakeholder organizations.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate professional and volunteer team members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in writing actionable reports that build on input from multiple stakeholders, crafting proposals and related presentations, and developing other documentation.
  • Experience in setting, attaining, and/or measuring performance indicators and outcomes.
  • Experience in working with databases and analyzing data.
  • Comfort with public speaking in front of small groups and wider audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and MS Project.
  • Experience in preparing programmatic budgets and key deliverables with programmatic approach.

Academic Credentials

  • A Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Management, Health, Education or any other related discipline.
  • Professional qualification in project management, data analysis or social science would be an asset.

Language Proficiency

Strong communication skills in English and Urdu (both oral and written); ability to understand regional languages will be an added advantage.

Travel and Schedule

Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and travel within and outside assigned district.
