The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) is seeking an experienced Medical Technician, reporting to the Unit In-charge.
Summary of the Role
The Medical Technician is responsible for supporting clinical services by assisting in patient care, dispensing prescribed medicines, performing basic clinical procedures, and maintaining medical equipment and supplies. The role includes assisting medical staff in OPD, Emergency, and minor procedures, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining infection prevention and control standards.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Assists Medical Officers in patient examination and treatment.
- Dispenses medicines as prescribed by authorized medical staff.
- Prepares and maintains OPD and emergency rooms.
- Measures and records vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, respiration).
- Assists in minor surgical procedures and wound dressing.
- Provides first aid and basic emergency care.
- Prepares patients for procedures and assists during examinations.
- Maintains patient flow and assists in triage where required.
- Assists during emergency cases and resuscitation procedures.
- Prepares emergency trays and ensures availability of supplies.
- Assists in wound management and minor procedures.
- Supports patient referral processes when required.
- Maintains and ensures proper functioning of medical equipment.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments after use.
- Reports faulty equipment to the supervisor.
- Ensures readiness of equipment in OPD and emergency areas.
- Follows infection prevention and control protocols.
- Maintains cleanliness of assigned clinical areas.
- Disposes of medical waste according to standard procedures.
- Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
- Maintains patient records and registers as assigned.
- Maintains stock registers for medicines and supplies.
- Assists in preparation of daily and monthly reports.
- Coordinates with doctors, nurses, and other staff.
- Assists in smooth functioning of OPD and emergency services.
- Participates in training sessions and staff meetings.
- Performs any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager
Required Skills
Skills And Qualifications:
- Diploma in Health, Diploma in Pharmacy will be preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience.
- Knowledge of basic clinical procedures.
- Maintain professional behavior with patients and staff.
- Follows duty rosters and maintains punctuality.
- Results-driven, ethical, and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
- Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
- Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
- Possesses strong integrity, intellectual humility and demonstrable expertise in navigating ambiguity and constant change.
