Job Summary
Job Role / Responsibilities:
- Daily duties at library front desk for circulation, i.e. check-in, check-out of books, membership for library patrons, etc.
- Generating overdue book records and sending reminders on a regular basis
- Assisting users in using the Online Public Access Catalogue
- Providing first-hand guidance/assistance to library patrons in searching and retrieving library materials
- Cataloguing and classification of library materials by using MARC
- Technical processing of library materials
- Maintaining library collections (sorting, shifting, overseeing, shelving, shelf reading, etc.)
- Data entry in eCommons, Institutional Repository (IR)
- Maintaining discipline within the library premises
- Displaying of library material on special days
- Preparing various reports, statistics for management use
- Any other task assigned by the supervisor/librarian.
Required Skills
You should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in library and information science or related field
- 1-2 years of experience, preferably in a social sciences library
- Good knowledge of social sciences literature/resources
- Excellent computer skills. MS Windows, MS Office and the internet
- Knowledge of LC, AACR2, RDA, MARC, Dublin Core and other library standards and schemas
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and serve the public in an effective and courteous way
- Commitment to service, continuous improvement, and innovation with a strong work ethic
- Aptitude to learn new things, willingness to work hard and good interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service attitude
- Be willing to work in rotations (shifts and weekends)
