Job Summary

Primary day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Preparation and oversight of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, cash flow projections as well as management of revenue and payments.
  • Development, preparation and review of budgets and monthly/quarterly reports to be submitted to senior management and governance bodies.
  • Preparation of financial documents and reports as required by the Executive Officer and the International Advisory Committee.
  • Regularly analyze data and trends to identify areas for process optimization, cost reduction, and enhanced programme delivery.
  • Support the Senior Management in the development of finance policies and ensure effective internal controls and compliance.
  • Support fundraising campaigns through the analysis of contributions and pledges, forecasts and recording of donations and sponsorships.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and statutory requirements of the organization and ensure they are duly fulfilled.
  • Identify and mitigate risks facing the organization.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and implement operational strategies that enhance efficiency, quality, and impact.
  • Develop and implement action plans, efficient operational processes, policies and systems to enhance overall effectiveness and streamline workflows.
  • Work closely with GRBs, DJI, partners and volunteers globally.

Required Skills

Professional Experience
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years financial management experience in a non-profit organisation or corporation in a senior financial capacity. Jamati or AKDN Institutional experience as a volunteer or staff, will be ideal. The FO will work collaboratively with other Global Encounters staff and volunteers globally.

Academic Credentials
A Bachelor’s degree and a professional qualification from a recognized institution in accounting, auditing or finance is required. Ideally the candidate will be expected to be an associate or fellow of a well-recognized accounting body.

Skills/Experience

  • Work experience as an accountant in a management / senior leadership role, with excellent knowledge of international financial reporting and accounting standards, including experience with general ledger, foreign currencies, and consolidation functions.
  • Excellent budgeting, financial planning and analysis, cash flow management, audit management and financial management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • Strong project management and administration skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Capacity to articulate and write reports for Senior Management.
  • Strong people management and volunteer coordination expertise, including communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and manage well at all levels and with teams in remote locations.
  • Sensitivity to operating within a values-based, non-profit context.
  • Ability to effectively build and manage relationships, liaise and collaborate with   Institutions and external non-profit, corporate, government, community organizations, and academic institutions and partners.
  • Ability to conduct oneself with the highest level of integrity and maturity and to work with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Dependable self-starter with a strong results-orientation and ability to work under pressure.
  • Hands-on experience in operating recognized accounting software. Experience with QuickBooks is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, Google Suite and presentation skills.
  • Experience working in a finance function (voluntary or paid) in a institution is prefer

Language Proficiency
English fluency required. Proficiency in second and third languages preferred – including, but not limited to: Arabic, Farsi, French, Gujarati, Hindi, Pashto, Portuguese, Swahili, Tajik, and Urdu.

Location & Travel Requirements
The position is Lisbon-based and will require travel from time to time to support the programme teams.
