We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Book Selection Officer to manage book selection, purchasing, and inventory planning. The ideal candidate will stay abreast of publishing trends, evaluate new and existing titles, and ensure a balanced and profitable book collection that meets customer demand.

Role and Responsibilities

• Review new and existing publications for quality, relevance, and suitability.
• Research and evaluate new book releases, upcoming titles, and bestseller trends.
• Stay updated on publishing industry news, literary awards, and author releases.
• Identify emerging genres, authors, and cultural trends aligned with customer interests.
• Ensure a balanced collection across genres, age groups, and subject categories.
• Identify collection gaps and source appropriate titles.
• Review monthly catalogues, newsletters, and daily publisher communications.
• Monitor and analyze sales performance to optimize future purchasing decisions.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing shortages and overstock situations.
• Review book-related content from newspapers and e-papers, including Books & Authors sections, for potential ordering opportunities.
• Generate Purchase Orders (POs) for new releases and replenishment orders.
• Maintain and reconcile local payment ledgers related to book procurement.

 

Required Skills

Skills and Qualification:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Literature, Library Sciences, Marketing, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in buying, merchandising, publishing, retail, or inventory management.
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory management systems.
• Passion for books, publishing, and reading trends.
