Job Summary

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. this study will aim to establish molecular surveillance through whole genome sequencing of Candida strains isolated at the Aga Khan University Laboratory and Improve an understanding and initiate surveillance including through whole genome sequencing of AMR gram-negative bacteria in Pakistan.

 This is a grant-funded contractual position.

You will be responsible for:

  • require specialised bioinformatic expertise to conduct data analysis for resistome determination, isolate typing and interpret results
  • development of bioinformatics skills through liaison between the AKU microbiology and infectious disease groups 
  • troubleshoot sequencing or bioinformatics issues, and implement updated or novel approaches to microbial genomics approaches as needed.
  • tracking timelines and follow-up with relevant project staff to ensure project activities, deliverables and their timelines as met as per the project plan
  • participating and organising meetings, microbial bioinformatics workshop   and conferences on bioinformatics.

Required Skills
  • PhD in Bioinformatics
  • excellence in research via a strong publication record in related field
  • proven quantitative background and must demonstrate extensive innovation and precision in bioinformatics software applications.
  • ability to assess critical situations and give analytical solution
  • knowledge of computer applications and programming skills with Stata
  • excellent written and verbal communicator
  • excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • attention to details and problem solving skills
