Job Summary

The role of the ITREB Academic Director (AD) is to ensure timely implementation of the entire educational program (ECD, Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, Post-Secondary for ITREB in the region of their jurisdiction. The duties and responsibilities of the AD will include (but will not be limited) to the following:

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Developing a vision for R.E that is resonant with the approaches of the primary and secondary Ta’lim materials
  • Creating strategic plan and direction towards the vision
  • Train and upgrade religious education teachers, engage in research, prepare materials and publications
  • Provide academic and educational leadership to ITREB to ensure consonance with IIS perspectives and continuous improvement in quality religious education;
  • Foster effective working relationship with the relevant Education Departments of the local government structures, with the AKES leadership, with leadership of the schools, where Ta’lim Program and STEP are being taught;
  • Work with Chair, Honorary Secretary and EO to analyse the RE system’s performance to attain targets and benchmarks of quality to ensure effective student learning and teacher development;  
  • Work with teams in the areas of ECD, Primary and Secondary (TLs and SAL) in development and arrangement of ITREB educational activities for the jurisdiction.
  • Work alongside a programmes manager/admin manager to support the management and preparation of budget for educational programs for all segments.
  • Attend Board meetings when invited and prepare regular reports on ITREB academic and educational activities for the Board.
  • Submit trimester and annual reports to EO on progress of the quality of student learning and teaching.
  • Work with the EO, the ITREB Board and STEP HR at the DJI on the long-term retention plans for STEP teachers and other ITREB educators / volunteers.
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly plan of activities and its further implementation.
  • Work with the ITREB EO and the Board on strategic areas of development: Quality Assurance, Teacher Deployment, Human Resource Program, Institutional Partnerships (external and internal)
  • Establishment of strategic and work support for the Chair, EO and the Boards members responsible for R.E (ECD, Primary and Secondary) on development of educational programmes.

Monitor and Evaluation as well as Impact assessments

  • Oversee the implementation of a quality assurance framework for RE from 0-18 yrs.

Capacity building

  • Supervise, mentor and coach ITREB’s education professionals

Management and Operations

  • Propose annual operating plans and contribute to the budget preparation exercise.
  • Manage the RE program budget and operations, and the RE system’s performance.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Stay abreast of external and internal issues, trends and techniques concerning education and teaching

Required Skills

Skills and Qualification:

  • The candidate should be a professional with a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Education Leadership. Familiarity with the secular education system is highly desired.
  • Substantial experiences working in classrooms with students in the early years (ECD and Primary) and well as secondary levels.
  • Experience with the system, either as a volunteer or professional, is highly desirable. Awareness of the provisions of the Constitution of Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims and prior exposure to the education system would be an asset but not a prerequisite.
  • A graduate of the STEP programme.
  • A qualification and background in Islamic or Ismaili studies, background in humanities and / or counselling / coaching would be an asset and fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of Hindi and Gujarati would be preferrable.

  • Comfort in working with computing, information and communication technology.
  • A willingness to travel from time to time within the jurisdiction and internationally is necessary.
  • Skills to conduct research, explore various pedagogies and andragogy’s.
